    Hi,

I tried to install 4GB RAM into the spare slot. I'm trying to install Crucial memory

I immediately get an error on windows boot. after a bit of recovery attempt the error displays "attempted to write to read only memory". removing the memory resolves and windows will boot normally. Any suggestions?

is it possible that the memory you got is a LEMON?

Could be but was brand new from Amazon. I have a bigger problem now. After trying to swap the RAM into different slots to see if it was an issue with installing the second RAM in teh second slot I now only get BLUE SCREEN and fan on power up. The PC won't boot into the bios screen so right now my new Pepper Jobs PC is bricked! GREAT:( Anyone suggest how I can un-brick this PC....sheesh....all I wanted to do was install another 4GB of RAM and now I'm screwed!

Disconnect the power, locate the reset pin hole, use a pin to press into and hold the button for a few seconds to reset the BIOS (aka Clear CMOS).

Put the power back and start the PC again.
It won't die that easily, unless very wrong high voltage is being applied by accident.

I've tried that a dozen times. The strange thing as soon as I put the power supply back in the blue power light comes back on. it doesn't need me to press the power button. In fact the power button doesn't seem to do anything. It won't switch off if I press or hold the power button in. I'm so upset that this PC is now useless and I haven't even used it yet! Just tried to install some more RAM and now its dead. Anything else I can try? Reset button definitely doesn't fix this

Could you please post a close-up picture showing how the original RAM is being installed?
We just want to make sure it's locked in position correctly.

This happens too when RAM is not present or not properly installed.

As far as I can see teh RAM is installed properly. it snaps in ok and the retaining clips are in place

It looks like the golden fingers are not all the way down plugged into the slot yet.
    Should be 1-2mm deeper down.

After making sure it's all the way down, clear CMOS,
    and reconnect to power after.

    Let us know the result.

Hello Ken, thank you for your help by the way. I pushed harder and it seemed to make no difference. But I did reset and power on anyway. No difference. Still the same result. I thought I would try the second slot as its easier to get leverage. I've attached a photo of the result. to me the RAM looks to be seated exactly the same as in the first slot. However, this time the PC did post! Hoorah. My dilemma of course is I still have 4GB when I want 8GB. Do I dare try again?

You should try to post that Crucial stick alone and run more MEM-related tests.
Just to make sure it's not a lemon.

I'll return the Crucial stick to Amazon and order another one I think. Then I may try again, although I'm a bit wary. I've installed memory in PCs dozens of times. Thought I knew what I was doing!

I think I know the problem, I've overlooked the spec of your stick, it seems not the right one for this platform.
It should be single rank x8 instead of single rank x16.
This is the one you should get: CT4G4SFS824A

Gemini Lake platform is quite good, but it's indeed a little picky on RAM.

ok great. thank you. I tried installing the Crucial RAM on its own and now I'm back to square one with pc not posting even when I go back to the original RAM:( I'll try and go back to removing RAM and resetting and powering on and hopefully I'll get it running again

Another round of removing/reinserting and resetting and I'm booting again. Thanks again for your help. I'll order the correct RAM

I tried installing the new RAM I ordered from Amazon and once again the PC wouldn't post! :( Install, reset, plug in power. just fan noise and blue light.....wait and wait. fan noise continues. very frustrated I now go through continued cycles of removing the new RAM, reset, power and same. Then a move the original RAM to the 2nd slot, reset, power and it posts. Then I try and install the new RAM in slot 1 and original RAM in slot 2 and it won't POST. Then I try and only install the new RAM in slot 1 only and it posts! I continue trying combinations of this until I feel like kicking this PC out of the window. So I now have the new RAM in slot 1 only and its working. I have concluded that for whatever reason this PC does not want me to ever install RAM in both slots and admit defeat!!!

do you think that something is wrong with the slot 2?
from your description, the PC never post OK with slot 2? Isn't it correct?
please don't worry, we are here to support you and your product is covered by warranty.

Hi Ken. The PC will post if RAM is in slot 2. it just won't ever post if I have RAM in both slots at the same time.

I've ordered another stick of identical Crucial RAM. If this doesn't work I'll move on. Life is too short!
