Multichannel audio how to test best

I use one of my two GLK-UC2X in combination with a HDMI matrix switch and so far I don't get multichannel up and running. I suspect it is the HDMI switch in between (that is obviously multi channel capable) that is signaling the GLK-UC2X to output just stereo sound over HDMI but I am not 100% sure. In my current set-up it is very difficult to cut the HDMI switch out of it as the cabling is build into the flour and linked to the HDMI matrix switch. Does anyone know if there is a way to tell the GLK-UC2X / Windows 10 Pro to output 5.1 sound via the HDMI port?

Right click the sound icon in the notification area and select 5.1 or 7.1 setting in 'Speaker setup'.
That does the trick, for me anyway.

Audio_channels.jpg For me it does not as I do see 5.1 and 7.1 as possibility, but they are gray and can not be selected. If I connect an Apple TV 4K to the same HDMI Matrix Switch I do get 5.1 sound so I am puzzled why the GLK-UC2X can't be put in the mode to output 5.1 sound.

You could check out the device capabilities:

Settings - System - Sounds - Device Properties - Additional Device Properties - Supported Formats tab

    Oftewel:

    Instellingen - Systeem - Geluid - Apparaatinstellingen - Extra Apparaat instellingen, Capture.PNG

Thanks Paul for you assistance. I checked the supported formats and channels and see that the max number of channels is 2. Is there a possibility to manual add modes? My HDMI Matrix switch and the attached Yamaha receiver are capable of addressing 5.1 speakers (which I do have attached as well). Whereas an Apple TV 4K is getting the same handshake from the HDMI Matrix switch and decides to output 5.1 audio, the GLK-UC2X and or Windows 10 Pro however seems to conclude from the same handshake that stereo is the max that can be used which is very unfortunate. Or could it be something else? If it is the misinterpretation of the handshake I do hope the maximum number of channels can be added manual as well.

It detects the matrix switcher as audio device, that's where it goes wrong. The handshake is with the switch, not the Receiver.

I wonder what disabling that device would do, maybe windows then chooses the next available device as output device.
Why not give it a try?

I finally got to test my second GLK-UC2X which is connected directly to a Samsung HW-N950 soundbar and then multichannel audio is selectable and working including Dolby Atmos! So I guess it has to do with the handshake with the HDMI Matrix switch indeed. Does anyone have an idea how to overrule the handshake? As mentioned earlier: with my Apple TV 4K multichannel audio is available also when the HDMI Matrix switch is being used.

try reporting this to the Intel forum, it's something that their driver software may try to improve.

I found a solution that I want to share in case more people have the same issue. The issue is the HDMI handshake indeed where the capabilities of the equipment is not properly negotiated. To solve this HDMI handshake issue I am now using a piece of hardware called "DR HDMI 4K" (from HDfury) which I placed in between my HDMI output of my HTPC and the input to the HDMI Matrix switch. After selecting the correct mode on the DR HDMI 4K I do have the ability to select 5.1 audio and it is working just fine.
