So this is the build I am about to buy with the part numbers. Memory A-Tech 16GB DDR4 2400 2x8 pc4-19200 Non ECC Unbuf SODIMM 260 pin 2rx8 1.2v Dual Rank at8g2d4s2400ND8N12v SSD WD Blue 3D NAND 1TB Internal PC SSD - SATA III 6 Gb/s, M.2 2280, Up to 560 MB/s - WDS100T2B0B Plan. Attach TV Power up the glk to check everything is working. Turn off and unplug. Wait a few minutes. Add the SSD and then power up, discover new ssd, check disk, format. Pass some files from an external drive. Power off and wait again Replace ram with the 2 dual rank 8GB sticks above. Restart and press reset button. Verify ram. Run benchmarks. Install software. I intend to leave the OS on the orginal drive. It's been 15+ years since I've build a machine. It's a little like Soul of a New Machine all over again for me. Thanks for your feedback.
The WD SSD looks perfectly fine to me, we've bought the same model and tested on our GLK before. The RAM.. not so sure about this brand, would you consider Kingston instead? https://www.pepper-forum.com/index.php?threads/glk-uc2x-over-ram.32/#post-143 The prerequisite is Single Rank 1Rx8 8GB DDR4 SODIMMs with CL17 to setup dual-channel 16GB on this platform.
This one is cheaper and 1Rx8: However, the CL timing is not stated anywhere in the listing, so I can't say it may or may not work with the GLK. You better check with the manufacturer first.
Thanks. I was confused by the rank and channel spec. Been 15+ years since my last build. I'll try one of those chips and add a second later if I need it.
